I think everyone can agree that they their standard excuse to skip the gym is “I don’t have time to work out!”. By living the fast-paced and mobile life style that most of us do, it is true that we often find ourselves too busy to allow ourselves some relaxation or participation in active and healthy activities. However, with some of the incredible shortened workout routines that are popping up everywhere over the past couple of years, I think it is time this excuse becomes virtually non-existent. These workouts are extremely condensed – lots of work in a short period of time, promising maximum benefits without the need for hours of dedication on a daily basis. Here are a couple programs that are quite popular right now:
Focus T – 25: This program is tough! Trainer Sean seriously works you out. But it switches up daily with different focus areas (core, legs, cardio, etc.), which makes it bearable. It is only 25 minutes a day, with one day off a week. The program is broken up into two 5 week periods.
Jillian Michaels 30 day shred: This one is a daily 20 minute workout for 30 days, promising visible results. This one is a little more suitable to beginners than the Focus T – 25 mentioned above. However, over the 30 days the work outs get tougher; Miss. Michaels keeps you working hard every day for a month.
These programs often have you sticking to an extremely strict schedule, but I think it is important to remind yourself that if you miss one of the workouts one day it is far from the end of the world. These programs are useful in that they are a resource which provides a variety of short, effective and tough work-outs, however don’t get discouraged if you are not sticking to it completely religiously. It’s important to keep active daily, so if you don’t feel like doing one of these workouts one day, don’t use “too busy” as an excuse, but instead find an alternative. Walk to the grocery store rather than drive, take the stairs rather than the elevator, or run around with your kids at the park. Find time every day, even if it’s just a few minutes, to do something active for yourself! I promise that is one thing that you will never regret.
